Intraoral Cameras

As part of your regularly scheduled exam and cleaning, we will use a tiny intraoral camera to capture images of the inside of your mouth. This safe, non-invasive camera provides a high-tech way to help diagnose any dental work that needs to be performed. Once we capture an image of your teeth and/or gums, we will immediately display the image on a monitor so that you can discuss treatment options with Dr. McCargar.

Bonding

Tooth bonding is an easy and effective way to correct small tooth defects including minor chips, cracks, spots, discolorations, or gaps between teeth. This simple procedure uses a custom-made, tooth-colored material to mechanically attach restorations such as composite fillings or porcelain veneers to the affected tooth. Once completed, the tooth structure is not only reinforced, but the treated tooth will look virtually indistinguishable from your other teeth.

Tooth Colored Fillings

We know that safe, natural looking restorations are important to our patients. That is why our office specializes in metal-free white composite fillings. Tooth colored composite fillings offer many healthy advantages over the traditional silver amalgam fillings. Since these fillings are bonded to the affected tooth, they not only restore the natural appearance of the tooth, but restore most of the original strength of the tooth as well. Additionally, composite fillings require less removal of tooth structure, are mercury free, and generally make your restored tooth less sensitive to hot and cold than a tooth restored using the silver amalgam fillings of the past.

Sealants

Our office specializes in applying dental sealants to our child and adolescent patients as a safe and effective way to prevent tooth decay. Dental sealants work by bonding a layer of plastic resin on the biting surface of your teeth. Applied to permanent teeth, this layer creates a smoother tooth surface by filling in the deep grooves and fissures that trap bacteria and are difficult to clean with a toothbrush. Dental plaque can be removed more easily and effectively, resulting in incidence of tooth decay.

Periodontal Care

At Scottsdale Dental Arts, Dr. Jason McCargar believes that a healthy smile begins with healthy gums. Gum disease is a serious problem that can not only cause bad breath and swollen, bleeding gums, but can lead to tooth loss and a variety of other health problems. As part of your routine oral care, we strive to detect and treat gum disease in its earliest stages. As part of your periodontal (gum) health, our office offers deep root cleaning (scaling and root planning) which removes plaque and bacteria that is below the gum line. This is then followed up by a periodontal maintenance program where your teeth and gums are cleaned and checked every three to four months.

Bridges

When you lose one or more teeth, the surrounding teeth will shift into the open space, resulting in a number of problems including misalignments of the teeth and bite, additional bite strain, and even speech impediments. The space resulting from the loss of a tooth can lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, as well as a negative social and psychological impact on the patient. Bridges fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and offer an excellent solution to these problems. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants which surround the gap. These teeth serve as the anchors for the new bridge and are crowned in order to add additional strength to the restoration. As with crowns, our office offers you the choice of materials for your new bridge. As part of your treatment process, Dr. McCargar will help you decide the best material to use based on the location of the missing teeth, functionality, cost and aesthetic considerations.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Treatment

TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder occurs when the joint between the jawbone and skull become misaligned. This hinge is a remarkably complex joint that works in conjunction with muscles and ligaments to move the jaw from side-to-side and back and forth. People who suffer from TMJ Disorder often present with symptoms including headaches, earaches, pain when yawning or chewing, locking at the joint, and clicking or popping sounds when opening or closing their mouth. TMJ can be diagnosed with an oral exam that includes your medical and dental history, a clinical examination, and x-rays. Our office provides a number of treatment options for TMJ, including custom fit nightguards designed to relieve the discomfort of TMJ by preventing nighttime clenching and grinding.
